Most horse show competitions can be grouped into broad categories like halter or in-hand classes, where a handler leads the horse on the ground, and the horse is judged on conformation and breeding suitability. There are also harness classes, where the horse is driven instead of ridden and evaluated on manners, performance, and quality. Lastly, there are jumping or over-fences classes, including show jumping and show hunter, where horses and riders must clear obstacles.
