SPECIAL RULES:
1. See Department 11 -24 Rules.
2. Exhibitors are limited to the one entry in each category, for example; exhibitor may enter Class 1-A, Class 1-B.
3. Fresh baked goods will be sold at the 4-H Auction unless specified otherwise. A portion will remain for display. Proceeds will go for the 4-H Building Fund.
4. Exhibits must be made by exhibitor from scratch recipes not mixes.
5. Cake and pie entries MUST fit on an 8" cardboard with the exception of decorated cake entries). CAKE AND PIE PANS ARE NOT RETURNABLE.
6. All baking participants will received a Red Star Yeast coupon.
7. All baking entries using yeast in Class 1A Bread and Class 2A Rolls will be entered in a Red Star Drawing.
8. No baked goods needing refrigeration will be accepted.

Baked goods will be received Monday, July 23, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. after being registered in Jordan Hall.

Each class in Section 1 will be judged for a BEST OF SHOW, winner will receive a Rosette and $10. .

A. Vegetable Quick Bread Contest
Contest Rules Vegetable Quick Bread Contest
1. One loaf of quick (non-yeast) bread baked in a 9"x5" pan and displayed on a paper plate or cardboard.
2. Recipe must include at least one cup or more of the following Pennsylvania grown vegetables:
Asparagus, beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, greens, egg plant, garlic, horseradish, leeks, onion, parley, peas, pepper, pumpkin, spinach, summer squash, zucchini, sweet corn, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, turnip or winter squash.
3. Recipe must accompany the entry

2012 HERSHEY'S COCOA Classic Chocolate Cake Baking Contest

RULES
1
. Open to any individual who is a Pennsylvania resident; one entry per person.
2. NEW! Entrants may NOT have won 1st place in this Hershey's Cocoa Chocolate Cake contest at any other fair in 2012.
3. Entry must be a layered chocolate cake made from "scratch" and frosted (no mixes).
4. Cake Recipe: A minimum of 1/4 cup of Hershey's Cocoa must be used and listed as "Hershey's Cocoa" in the cake batter part of the recipe.
5. FROSTING/DRIZZLE: If chocolate frosting and/or chocolate drizzle is used, Hershey's Cocoa must be used and listed as "Hershey's Cocoa" in the frosting/drizzle part of the recipe.
6. If candy, chocolate, or flavored baking chips products are used, they must be Hershey's, Reese's or Heath branded products, and listed with their brand name in the recipe. (See www.hersheys.com for complete product list.)
7. The entire Cake entry must be submitted for judging on cardboard or a disposable plate..
8. Recipes(s) must be submitted with the entry, printed on one-side of 8 1/2 X 11" paper. Recipe must list all ingredients, quantities, and the preparation instructions. Entrant's name, address and phone number must be printed on the back side of all the pages.
9. Refrigeration is not available at the Fair or the PA Farm Show. Entries that require refrigeration after baking must indicate so in the recipe. Those entries will not be sold, auctioned or otherwise distributed for consumption after judging for food safety reasons.
10. Judging will be based on the following criteria:
....Flavor -------------------------------------30 points
(aroma, taste, good balance of flavorings)

....Texture-------------------------------------25 points
(appropriate for the type of cookie, brownie or bar)

....Inside Characteristics--------------------- 20 points
(even grain, evenly baked; free from air pockets)

(uniform size, shape, appearance; overall appeal)

Angel Food Cake Contest Rules
1. Open to any individual who is a Pennsylvania resident. One entry per person.
2. Entrants may NOT have won 1st place in this Angel Food Cake contest at any other fair in 2012.
3. Entry must be a Angel Food Cake made from "scratch".
4. Pennsylvania produced and packed eggs are requested to be used if at all possible. Please look for the PEQAP or PA Preferred logo or PA packaging dates on the cartons.
5. Refrigeration is NOT available at the Fair or PA Farm Show. Entries that require refrigeration after baking must indicate so in the recipe. Those entries will not be sold, auctioned or otherwise distributed for consumption after the judging for food safety reasons.
6. Cake entry must be submitted for judging on cardboard.

  A. Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest
 

25th Annual Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Rules:

1. Open to any individual who is a Pennsylvania resident; one entry per person. NOTE: If an individual has already won 1st place at another fair in 2012 for this Blue Ribbon Apple Pie contest, that individual is now considered qualified through that Fair to compete at the 2012 PA Farm Show and is no longer eligible to enter this contest at any upcoming Fairs.
2. Creativity is essential to a varied competition. Do not limit your pie to a "traditional" two-crusted apple pie. We are looking for a variety of fillings in the pies; the pie must include at least 60% apples in the filling.
3. The entire pie must be submitted for judging in a disposable pie pan.
4. A neatly handwritten or typed recipe for the pie and pie crust must be submitted on a standard --8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. Please use one side only. This recipe will also need to be submitted when entering at the Farm Show. Recipe must list all ingredients, quantities, and the preparation instructions. Entrant's name, address and phone number must be printed on the back side of all the pages.

Canned Products

Canned or Dried products must be displayed in standard canning jars, with new two-piece lids, (rings must be on jars when entered) or new sealable. NO mayonnaise jars. NO zinc type lids permitted. Single varieties in one-quart or one pint clear glass jars. The Fair reserves the right to open and inspect canned goods.
