Section A-7 - Carcass Lamb

Judge:
RULES: 1. Lamb must have been tagged on the first Saturday in May at the Fairgrounds with an approved tag.
2. The judge will select 12 lambs from the entries in the carcass show to be slaughtered and judged "on the rail". They may be either ewes or wethers born after Jan. 1, 2017 and weighing over 85 lbs. Only one entry per exhibitor.
3. Ownership and feeding period of the animals is the same as in the market classes.
4. The Champion, Reserve Champion and 3rd Place Overall of "on the rail" will be included and sold in the Junior Livestock Sale on Saturday. All others carcass show entries must be sold privately by the exhibitors.
5. A slaughter fee of $25 for lambs must be paid by the buyers.
6. Carcass lambs will be weighed on Tuesday from 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. After the 12 carcass lambs have been selected on Tuesday morning, they will be taken to Locker Plant LLC for slaughter and judging "on the rail" Thursday.
7. All owners of carcass animals not in sale should report cutting information to Locker Plant, LLC promptly in person or by phone (814-652-2714).

Section A-8 - Carcass Hog

RULES:
1. The judge will select 12 hogs from the entries in the carcass show to be slaughtered and judged "on the rail". They may be either gilts or barrows weighing between 240 and 300 lbs. and have a minimum of 5/10 of backfat or the carcass will be disqualified. Hogs must have been tagged with the approved carcass tag. Tagging forms and photos must be returned to the Extension Office by May 19 (Or postmarked by May 19.) Only one entry per exhibitor.
2. Housing for these hogs will not be provided. Hogs to arrive Wednesday morning, weighed from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. for the carcass class at 8:30 a.m., then trucked to Locker Plant, LLC. for slaughter and "on the rail" judging on Thursday.
3. The Champion, Reserve Champion and 3rd Place Overall of "on the rail" will be included and sold in the Junior Livestock Sale on Saturday. All other carcass show entries must be sold privately by the exhibitors.
4. A slaughter fee of $30 for hogs must be paid by the buyers.
5. Prizes for carcass hogs are the same as for lambs above.
6. Carcass hog classes, in order of light to heavy weights, will enter the ring and be sorted by the judge. The judge will select the top twelve (12) to be sent to the Locker Plant, LLC. for on rail judging.
7. All owners of carcass animals not in sale should report cutting information to Locker Plant, LLC. promptly in person or by phone (814-652-2714).

Section A-10 - Livestock Judging Contest

SPECIAL RULES:
1. Open to all 4-H and FFA members carrying a livestock project.
2. Contest will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday. Meet in the Jr. Exhibit Building.
3. Participants must attend an educational carcass program following the judging contest.
4. The contest will consist of: 1 class each of beef, sheep, swine and meat goats, feeds identification, equipment identification, meat cuts identification, livestock breeds identification, and a management quiz.

Section A-20 - Group Exhibits

SPECIAL RULES:
1. Any registered Bedford County 4-H Club or FFA Club is eligible to enter the contest. If you don't register with the Fair office, you will not be eligible for ribbons and prize money.
2. Exhibits shall be placed in the 4-H center on Friday, July 21, from 12 noon to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
3. Reference for judging exhibits: Penn State Extension Publication S273, Exhibits: Design and Production.
4. Exhibits are allotted a space 8' wide x 8' high by 8' deep.
5. Exhibits may be removed Saturday, July 29, 8:00-11:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 30, 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
6. Exhibits in each class should focus on the 4-H theme: "Country Scenes...Blue Ribbon Dreams"
